Inspiration in unlikely places

My daily stomping ground in Pacific Grove along Ocean View Boulevard.

A few years ago Jon and I were signing paperwork for our mortgage and making small talk with the broker. Anyone that has signed their life away like this knows that it’s pretty mundane and takes a while! I think I actually brought snacks. Of course, she saw my profession listed as “Professional Runner” and that sparked a conversation about running because frankly, most people don’t know you can actually do that for a living.

Well, just the other day I received a sweet email from her on Facebook. She was not sure I remembered her (which of course I did!). She was a very new, self-proclaimed jogger at the time, and we talked about some great places to run, my training, and some things she could do. Though she has since moved from the area, she wrote to tell me that she was inspired by our conversation, and has since really grown to love running and recently completed her first half marathon.

I am thrilled to have played a small part in her running. I remember telling her she looked like a runner. I think now she feels like a runner. Congrats Rachel! Welcome to the wonderful world of running. I like to think my dorky love of running is contagious, and in this case maybe it was! Never underestimate the power of a sincere conversation.
